ViewSonic ViewPad 7

ViewSonic ViewPad 7

ViewSonic ViewPad7 uses the latest Android technology. The earlier model, which featured the Android, suffered from a lack of apps, poor design and lackluster performance. However, the View Sonic ViewPad7 overcomes all this problems. The device is quite attractive with full access to the Android market and can last for more than 7 hours on a single charge. The device is capable of making a call even when you plug-in a SIM card.

The Viewpad7 wears a glossy black wrap and the edges have a silvery plastic border. The device is very sleek but the fingerprint marks are easily noticeable. With a dimension of 7.1 x 4.3 x 0.45-inch and a weight of 13.2 ounces, the Viewpad7 looks quite similar to the Samsung Galaxy Tab with the exception of a flat underside.

Back, Search, Home and Settings are the Android icons on the right of the display. The power button is placed next to the small speaker grilles. The volume control, which is used for controlling the volume, can be found on the top of the ViewPad7. The plastic cover protects the miniSD card and the SIM card slots. The headphone jack and the mini USB port can be located at the bottom. The viewpad7 has a protective case, which allows the tablet to be locked into the case with two small plastic tabs.

Despite of the 7-inch screen, the ViewPad7 has a resolution of 800 x 480, which is significantly lower than the Samsung Galaxy Tab. The Android apps designed for smart phones run nicely on the device as the resolution of the ViewPad7 matches most of the smart phones. The touch screen capacity of the device is very responsive and quick. The ViewPad7 features two speakers on either side, which enhances the sound capability of the device.

The ViewPad7 runs the Android 2.2, but still has only four home screens. The 3D scrolling provides a great view of the installed apps. You can choose the type of keyboard you want as the ViewPad7 features three keyboard: a standard QWERTY, a dial pad-style keyboard, and the modified QWERTY i.e. two letters on a single key. The standard keyboard is the most efficient and keys are bigger than the Galaxy tab. You can use the dictionary facility that guesses words as you type. It is very efficient and provides good prediction.

A great feature of the ViewPad7 is the “www.*.com” which inserts the beginning and the ending on its own; you just need to type the URL after hitting this button.

Samsung QX410-J01

Samsung, as a company, is evolving in the laptop market. One has to see the Samsung QX410-J01 to believe it. With the stunning edge-to-edge glass display, premium island-style keyboard and the gesture touchpad, which guarantees an enjoyable and graceful computing experience, this device truly stands out among its rivals.

The Samsung QX410 has sleek brushed metal design. The slender body, clean lines and smooth contours gives a wonderful feeling when touched. It includes the bezel and greater screen elevation and feels like the neatly planned offspring of the Mac Book from the inside. Matte aluminum surrounds the keyboard, making it look good and comfortable.

It has a processor of 2.35GHz Intel core i5 M460 with the windows 7 home premium as its operating system. It has 640 GB hard drive and 4GB memory. It uses the Intel HM55 as its chipset with a 14 inches display.

The keyboard restricts the quick use of the shift and the enter keys. The screen brightness is not as good as the other standard laptops. The keyboard features a small set of the volume/mute button, which takes care of the sound.

The multitouch touch pad is a good feature but its responsiveness is above average. The multitouch feature ups the glam quotient of the Samsung QX410.The 14 inch display has a resolution of 1366×786 pixels. The color and brightness are average compared to the other standard laptops. The stereo speaker provides good sound and is suitable for music, games and video playback.

The web cam is not high definition but provides suitable contrast and picture quality. It has a resolution of 640×480 pixels. The QX410 features a high number of ports. The ports are divided on the either side of the laptop. On the left side are the two USB 2.0 ports and the HDMI port while a single USB port on the right side. Great graphics and multimedia performance is provided by the Nvidia GeForce 310M graphics, which is suitable for movies and 3D gaming. One can automatically switch to the internal Intel graphics for basic apps in order to save the battery power. Samsung employs the charging technology and the advanced Lithium Polymer battery to keep the battery going strong up to 7 hours. The Samsung laptop comes with a warranty period of 1year. It offers and performs the same functions as the other expensive high-end laptops.

Its advantages include wide touch pad, look and feel of high-end laptop, affordable and a good keyboard. The unavailability of the Bluetooth is one of its disadvantages.

Samsung SF510-A01

The Samsung SF510-01, with its attractive design, is a good laptop for personal use. Its bulk, at 15 x 10 inches and at a weight of 5.4 pounds, sometimes makes it difficult to pick it up and go. But, if you need a laptop that mostly stays in one place and works great, the Samsung SF510-A01 is a good option.

Samsung was generous with the keyboard on this model. The hand has plenty of room to move without feeling clumsy. It offers good spacing between keys and even has a ten-key just like a computer keyboard. Ten-keys are hard to find on laptops but it is a welcome addition. You can find volume control and mute buttons above the keyboard.

The plentiful 15.6 inch screen size on the Samsung SF510-A01 offers a 1,366 x 768 pixel resolution. While playing low-resolution video in full-screen, the pixilation is a bit noticeable, but only because of the super huge screen. While that resolution is low for the screen size, the cost of the laptop makes up for it. The starting price for this one is just $629.99. The screen does, though, limit the angles at which you can view content.

The speakers work well but they aren’t the best on the market. They get the job done for movie watching though. The volume is more than is expected with a laptop at this price.

The computer itself contains 4GB of RAM and 500GB of hard-drive space. It is powered by a 2.4 Ghz Intel Core i3 M370 processor. And, its operating system is 64-bit Windows 7 Home Premium.

Noticeably missing is Bluetooth capability on the Samsung SF510-A01. The ability to connect wireless keyboards and other wireless peripherals is gone with the lacking of this technology. And, DVD streaming is not included with this machine.

A nice touch is that the ports—HDMI and USB—are  hidden from sight by being placed behind a hinged door.

A bonus for the Samsung SF510-A01 is that a WiMax antenna is included. WiMax allows you to combine broadband speed with wireless convenience. Unfortunately, WiMax is not yet widely available. But, it is the next up-and-coming technology. The Samsung SF510-A01 is a good option for taking advantage of the new technology early on.

The netbook looks quite aesthetic with a brushed metal finish on its lid and wrist rests. The netbook is very portable and can be easily carried around. Its dimensions are 10.3 x 7.1 x 0.9 inches and it weighs around 2.4 pounds. The netbook has a resolution of 1024 x 600. Dell Inspiron Duo

The Dell Inspiron Duo adds a unique design to existing technology to combine touch-screen convenience with laptop functionality. Dell originally intended for the Inspiron Duo to be their answer to the Apple iPad, but it is very different. The machine really slows down when working with the touch-screen tablet.

The hinge on the Inspiron Duo allows the screen to be flipped to turn into a tablet style computer. When the Dell Inspiron Duo screen is flipped facing out, the touch-screen interface kicks on. The touch-screen is recommended for working with images, music, and video. However, in touch-screen mode, the operating system slows down generously. It doesn’t handle streaming video well. When the screen is flipped back in, Windows desktop functionality resumes.

The keys on the keyboard are small and tight and are the usual flat keys seen on Dell products. They are very unforgiving to larger fingers.

The desktop is well laid out and has large icons for easily choosing buttons in the touch-screen interface. It doesn’t require a stylus like some touch-screen interfaces.

The battery life on the Dell Inspiron Duo leaves much to be desired. This makes the machine difficult for portability.

The speakers on this system are good for personal listening and the machine has an optional speaker accessory that can be purchased separately.

The 10.1 inch screen size on the Dell Inspiron Duo offers a 1,366 x 768 pixel resolution. The resolution is considered good quality for a laptop of this size and price. The starting price for this one is just $549.99.

The computer itself contains 2GB of RAM and 320GB of hard-drive space. It is powered by a 1.5 Ghz Intel Atom N550 processor. And, its operating system is Windows 7 Home Premium.

Missing from the Dell Inspiron Duo are some important connections. For example, the SD card slot and Ethernet jack are both excluded . . . but can be found on the optional dock. And, video output is not available on either the dock or the computer.

This machine is good for the Windows desktop functionality and is fun to show off, but lacks the support to satisfactorily run the touch-screen interface. You may end up being frustrated with the load time and just use the desktop instead.

The Lenovo ThinkPad T410 2522 is actually quite pleasurable to type on.

The computer itself contains 4GB of RAM and 320GB of hard-drive space. It is powered by a 2.53 Ghz Intel Core i5-540M    processor. And, its operating system is Windows 7 Home Premium.

The speakers on the Lenovo ThinkPad T410 2522 serve their purpose for your personal viewing of video and movies. But, they lack the quality for listening to music.

The one major Achilles heel of the Lenovo ThinkPad T410 2522 is game and video image quality is fairly poor. The quality is unexpected for the cost of this machine and is actually disappointing. But, if the laptop is used for business, the quality will suffice. And, the display brightness is pleasant.

Aside from the quality of video and game imagery and the speakers, this laptop proves to be another quality and luxurious product from Lenovo.

Samsung Mondi SWD-M100

Samsung designed the Samsung Mondi SWD-M100 to be the full-featured handheld computer. Samsung has put in a lot of efforts in making the mobile device a usable gadget that can even be used as an in-car GPS or a mobile Wi-Fi hotpot. In spite of all the features it is too big to fit in your pocket, too expensive and too small to type on.

The Mondi is a WiMax handheld mobile which is more usable than its predecessor. The Mondi’s windows Mobile OS provides the apps available unlike the predecessor which made it difficult to run various apps as the apps doesn’t support the predecessor’s OS. The Mondi comes with a lot of software incorporated to make it feel smart.

The Mondi weighs 5.39 ounces and has a dimension of 4.88×3.03×0.63 inches (HxWxD). The Mondi is solidly built with a big 800×480 touch screen using the old resistive technology, but it responds well even to light touches. You can make use of the thumb keyboard which is a small keyboard with rectangular keys and a cursor pad. But this requires you to work with two hands instead of one. The Mondi has a flip-out kickstand enabling you to watch movies on the go. The Mondi also has a car mount and a car charger so as to allow you to use the in-car GPS.

The Mondi has an 800 MHz Samsung ARM11 processor which makes it the fastest and the most powerful Windows Mobile device. Samsung NF310 A01

The Samsung NF310 A01 offers     an attractive design with an HD screen and a larger keyboard than other net-books available. The laptop seems bulky at first, but once you check inside, you’ll understand why it is so large: the luxurious full sized keyboard. And, the battery life will leave you pleasantly surprised.

The Samsung NF310 A01 contains a large six cell battery that clumsily hangs out at the bottom of the base. But, using rubber feet on the net-book, Samsung has elevated the keyboard at the back to ease typing and forces the keyboard towards the user. This makes the typing experience more like that of a personal computer.

The long lasting seven hour battery life makes this net-book worthy of its status as a take-along. It lasts long enough to take to the local coffee shop or library. And, its easy file sharing makes it perfect for direct PC to PC connection. Easily transfer files with friends.

The keyboard on this machine is full sized. The keys on the keypad are large, spacious, and raised like that of a personal computer keyboard. It is a breath of fresh air to have a raised keypad that is the size of a personal computer.

The 10.1 inch screen size on the Samsung NF310 A01 offers a 1,366 x 768 pixel resolution. The resolution is considered good quality for a laptop of this size and price. The starting price for this one is just $399. The jaw-dropping price is matched by this machine’s performance.

The computer itself contains 1GB of RAM and 250GB of hard-drive space. But, the memory is easy to upgrade on this machine. It is powered by a 1.5 GHz Intel Atom N550 Dual Core processor. And, its operating system is Windows 7 Starter.

The speakers on this net-book surprisingly provide exceptional volume for their size. And the images and text are sharp. That is attributed to exceptional quality of the resolution of the machine.

Lacking on the Samsung NF310 A01 is an HDMI output, so you can’t output uncompressed digital data.

Netbooks are currently at a standstill in innovation. But, the high resolution, great user experience, larger keypad, and great battery life on the Samsung NF310 A01 make this a great net-book, for the price.
